Treasures of Cambodia: Legendary Temples, Vibrant Cities & Tropical Shores
The Kingdom of Cambodia, a land shaped by history and rich cultural heritage, offers travelers a captivating blend of ancient wonders and natural beauty. A journey through Cambodia becomes an immersive exploration: from the majestic temples of Angkor and the tranquil waters of Tonle Sap to the rural charm of Kampong Thom, the lively streets of Phnom Penh and the peaceful beaches around Sihanoukville. Everywhere you go, you’ll be welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality.
The Best Time to Visit Cambodia
Cambodia’s rainy season begins around May and ends in September. Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Battambang can be visited year-round. During the rainy months, we do not recommend traveling in the northeastern region due to poor road conditions, nor to the seaside resorts because of the unpredictable weather.
The ideal time for a Cambodia trip is between November and March.

Day 2 | Discovering the Magical Temples of Angkor
Today you explore the legendary temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from the 9th to the 15th century.
Your first stop is Angkor Thom, the “Great City,” surrounded by a vast moat and impressive walls. Enter the ancient city through the monumental South Gate, flanked by stone figures of gods and demons. Here, you truly feel transported back in time. At its center lies the enigmatic Bayon Temple, famous for its countless serene stone faces.
The UNESCO World Heritage site Ta Prohm remained hidden in the jungle for 400 years. Time seems to stand still here as massive tree roots wrap themselves around the temple stones—an unforgettable and atmospheric sight.
In the afternoon comes the highlight: Angkor Wat, one of the world’s greatest architectural masterpieces. This vast temple complex is a national symbol of Cambodia and a powerful reminder of the achievements of ancient civilizations.
Later, you can enjoy the sunset from the hill of Phnom Bakheng.

Day 3 | Floating Villages & the Spider Market
Together with your guide, you visit the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake, offering insights into centuries-old ways of life. These communities adapt to the lake’s changing water levels by living in stilt houses. You will take a boat ride past villages whose residents—mostly fishermen—make their living directly from the lake.
The drive continues through a landscape of rice fields and traditional stilt homes. Along the way, you stop in Skun, known for its exotic Spider Market. During the food shortages under the Khmer Rouge, locals began eating spiders—today, fried tarantulas seasoned with salt, sugar, chili and crushed garlic have become a local delicacy.
As you approach the capital, Phnom Penh unfolds as a fascinating mix of old traditions and modern energy. Colonial-era buildings, new skyscrapers and bustling markets line the streets, reflecting the country’s rapid transformation.
Evening tip: Enjoy a stroll along the scenic riverside promenade at the Tonle Sap River. From here, you can admire the city skyline, traditional wooden boats and the lively atmosphere shaped by street vendors, cafés and restaurants. You’ll also pass the Royal Palace along the way.

Day 4 | Historical Highlights – A Journey Through Cambodia’s Past
Your day begins with a visit to the Royal Palace, the official residence of Cambodia’s king and a symbol of the country’s monarchy. Afterwards, explore the National Museum, home to priceless artifacts and a rich collection of Khmer art and history.
Continue with a traditional cyclo ride through the colonial quarters.
To understand one of the most tragic chapters in Cambodian history, you visit the Tuol Sleng Museum, a former high school turned security prison during the Khmer Rouge regime of the 1970s. It stands as a somber reminder of the atrocities committed during this period.
A short drive outside the city takes you to Choeung Ek, the most well-known of Cambodia’s “Killing Fields,” where the suffering under the Khmer Rouge becomes painfully evident.

Day 5 | Sihanoukville Serenity: Sun, Sand & Sea
In the late morning you leave the capital and drive about three hours to Sihanoukville on the coast.
Once a quiet fishing village, Sihanoukville has transformed significantly over the years, with modern high-rises shaped by recent Chinese investment. Still, beautiful beaches stretch just outside the city, perfect for peaceful walks along the shore. You can also explore much of the town on foot.
Our recommendation: Use Sihanoukville as your base for excursions to the nearby islands Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem.
If you wish, we can also arrange overnight excursions to Kampot and Kep.

Day 6 | Journey to Ko Chang, Thailand
After breakfast, your driver picks you up for the scenic five-hour journey to the Cambodian border near Koh Kong.
The route takes you through lush landscapes, rural villages and tropical forest scenery before reaching the Cham Yeam / Had Lek border crossing—a gateway connecting Cambodia and Thailand.
After crossing the border independently, your Thai driver will already be waiting for you. Continue along a beautiful coastal road through Thailand’s narrow isthmus, with the sea on one side and mountains on the other.
Travel tip: Extend your holiday on Ko Chang and consider visiting the neighboring islands Ko Kood and Ko Mak. Alternatively, stay overnight in the provincial town of Trat or in a peaceful mangrove resort nearby before continuing your journey the next day.
