Southern Thailand
Coastal Journey to the South
From Bangkok down to Hua Hin, a nearly 500-kilometer stretch of coastline follows the Gulf of Thailand all the way to Chumphon. As you travel south, the scenery shifts from lush jungle landscapes to tropical beaches and small traditional fishing villages.
Hua Hin, Thailand’s oldest seaside resort, is home to the summer residences of the Thai royal family. Further along the route, the journey leads you past dramatic limestone hills, wide green rice fields and quiet coastal communities. Depending on the length of your trip, overnight stays are arranged in small beachside villages for a relaxed and authentic experience.
Around Southern Thailand
Between Phuket and the Malaysian border, the landscape changes constantly. What was once one of the world’s largest coral reefs has left behind today’s iconic limestone formations. It is not unusual to drive along remote beaches that stretch for several kilometers without seeing another soul. In between, you pass lowland rainforest, waterfalls and limestone caves.
Further south, cultures blend. Many people trace their roots to Chinese, Malay and Thai ancestry. Buddhism and Islam coexist, and local markets are lively and full of atmosphere. Southern Thai cuisine is known for its variety of curry dishes – and the flavors tend to be a little spicier than in other parts of the country.
