A Kingdom Between History and Modern Life
A journey through Cambodia – from the majestic temples of Angkor Wat and the vibrant life on the Tonle Sap Lake to the energetic streets of Phnom Penh—offers travelers a unique window into the soul of this captivating country.
Siem Reap serves as the starting point, home to the world’s largest religious monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, life unfolds on the water: stilt houses, floating markets, and vibrant lakeside communities living in harmony with the rhythms of the Tonle Sap. The drive to Phnom Penh provides an intimate look at the rural lifestyles of Cambodia’s countryside. Once in the capital, you encounter a city of contrasts –where ancient traditions and modern influences blend seamlessly.
Best Time to Visit Cambodia
Cambodia’s rainy season begins around May and ends in September. Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and Battambang can be visited year-round. We do not recommend the northeastern regions or the beach resorts during the rainy season due to poor road conditions and rapidly changing weather. The best travel time is from November to March.

Day 2 | Exploring the Enchanting Temples of Angkor
Today, your guide leads you into the mystical temple world of Angkor, the former capital of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from the 9th to the 15th century.
Your day begins in the vast archaeological park with a visit to Angkor Thom, the “Great City,” surrounded by monumental walls and a massive moat. You enter through the majestic South Gate, guarded by statues of gods and demons—an impressive introduction to the ancient world that awaits inside. At its heart lies the iconic Bayon Temple, famous for its enigmatic stone faces.
Next, you explore Ta Prohm, a UNESCO World Heritage Site left largely in its natural state for centuries. Towering tree roots snake around the temple stones, creating one of the most atmospheric scenes in all of Cambodia.
In the afternoon, the highlight awaits—Angkor Wat. This monumental temple complex is considered one of the greatest architectural achievements of the ancient world and is a proud national symbol of Cambodia. Later, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset from Phnom Bakheng Hill.

Day 3 | Rural Life & Floating Villages
Together with your guide, you leave Siem Reap and travel into the countryside to visit Banteay Srei, a 10th-century temple built of distinctive pink sandstone. Known as the “Citadel of Women,” it is admired for its delicate, intricate carvings.
You continue to Banteay Samre, a fascinating temple built in the same architectural style as Angkor Wat.
Your journey then takes you to the floating villages on the Tonle Sap Lake, offering an unforgettable look into centuries-old ways of life. Families here live in stilt houses and move with the lake’s seasonal water levels. You’ll explore these communities by boat and see how people live primarily from fishing.
The excursion concludes with a ride on a traditional ox cart, once used for farming and transport—and historically even by armies for moving weapons and supplies. Ox carts have been part of Cambodian life for centuries and appear in temple carvings across the country.

Day 4 | Jungle Temples & the Spider Market
Your route today leads through lush Cambodian landscapes to the jungle temple Sambor Prei Kuk, located in Kampong Thom Province. This ancient complex predates Angkor Wat by several centuries and once served as the capital of the Chenla Kingdom, the predecessor to the Khmer Empire.
On the drive, you’ll pass green rice fields and traditional stilt houses. Along the way, stop in Skun, known for its exotic spider market. During the food shortages under the Khmer Rouge, locals began eating spiders out of necessity. Today, fried tarantulas seasoned with salt, sugar, chili, and crushed garlic are considered a local delicacy.
As you approach Phnom Penh, the city slowly expands into view—a dynamic blend of colonial-era buildings, modern skyscrapers, and bustling markets, illustrating Cambodia’s rapid transformation.
Tip: In the evening, enjoy a relaxing walk along the Tonle Sap River promenade. The views of the skyline, traditional wooden boats, and lively street vendors create a picturesque atmosphere. You’ll pass the Royal Palace, cafés, and restaurants.

Day 5 | Historical Highlights – A Journey Through Cambodia’s Past
Today offers a deep dive into Cambodia’s rich history. Begin with the Royal Palace, the official residence of the King of Cambodia and a masterpiece of traditional Khmer architecture. Continue to the National Museum, home to priceless artifacts that reveal the cultural heritage of the Khmer civilization. Afterwards, enjoy a Cyclo ride through the charming colonial quarters.
To gain insight into one of the country’s darkest chapters, visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum. Once a high school, it was turned into a notorious prison and interrogation center during the Khmer Rouge regime.
A short distance outside the city lies Choeung Ek, the most well-known of Cambodia’s “Killing Fields,” where the suffering of the Cambodian people under the Khmer Rouge is remembered with solemnity.
