The Islands of the Gulf – A Tropical Paradise

Thailand is famous for its breathtaking beaches and crystal-clear waters, making it a true haven for beach lovers and water enthusiasts. Set in the Gulf of Thailand, the three islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao offer an island-hopping experience that captivates every traveler.

Koh Samui, the largest of the three, is a vibrant blend of natural beauty and modern comforts. Palm-fringed beaches such as Chaweng and Lamai are known for their powder-soft sand and turquoise waters. With its appealing mix of luxury resorts, beach bars and lively nightlife, Koh Samui is the perfect destination for both relaxation and excitement.

A short ferry ride from Koh Samui lies Koh Phangan, often associated with its legendary Full Moon Party. But the island has far more to offer than its famous nightlife. Surrounded by pristine coral reefs, Koh Phangan is a paradise for snorkelers and divers. Secluded beaches such as Haad Yuan and Bottle Beach offer peaceful retreats where you can escape the crowds and enjoy pure tranquility amid nature.

Continuing your island-hopping adventure, Koh Tao is a must for anyone passionate about the underwater world. Known as the “Turtle Island,” it offers some of the best dive sites in Thailand. Colorful coral reefs, abundant marine life and frequent encounters with sea turtles make it an extraordinary place for underwater exploration. Beyond diving, visitors can hike through lush green hills and enjoy breathtaking panoramic vistas from its viewpoints.

Best Time to Visit

The southern Gulf region has distinct seasons, each offering its own charm, making it an excellent destination for travelers seeking variety.

The dry season typically lasts from mid-December to February. During this period, the islands enjoy abundant sunshine, clear skies and pleasant temperatures. Days are warm, averaging around 30°C (86°F), while evenings are comfortably cool.

As the dry season transitions into March and April, the hot season begins. Temperatures rise until May, often reaching up to 35°C (95°F). While the heat may deter some visitors, this period is ideal for travelers seeking a more peaceful and uncrowded holiday. Beaches are noticeably quieter, and from June to August the weather gradually becomes more variable.

From mid-August to mid-October, the islands experience the highest rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms and heavy showers. Although downpours can be intense, they typically occur in short bursts rather than lasting all day.

From November to mid-December, the region transitions from the rainy season back to the dry season. This is a pleasant time to visit, as rainfall decreases and humidity begins to drop, creating comfortable conditions for outdoor activities.

Days 1–4 | Koh Samui

After arriving at Koh Samui Airport, you will be transferred to your booked resort. The following days are yours to relax and explore this charming island.

Koh Samui is one of Thailand’s most beloved island destinations. Nestled in the Gulf of Thailand, this enchanting island offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty, pristine beaches and vibrant nightlife. In addition to its coastline, Koh Samui features a wide variety of attractions that cater to many different interests.

Known as the “Coconut Island,” Koh Samui is home to countless coconut plantations. The sight of swaying palm trees in the tropical breeze is unmistakable. The island’s interior is shaped by lush rainforests, waterfalls, towering limestone formations and hidden caves. A highlight not to be missed is Fisherman’s Village on the northern coast. Once a quiet fishing settlement, it has transformed into a lively center while preserving its authentic charm. Traditional wooden houses now host stylish boutiques, art galleries and modern restaurants. The irresistible aroma of freshly grilled seafood fills the air—whether shrimp or grilled squid, Fisherman’s Village is a paradise for food lovers.

Days 4–7 | Koh Phangan

You will be picked up at the resort and transferred by ferry to Koh Phangan. Upon arrival at the pier, a representative will greet you and take you to your hotel. The next days are at leisure.

Koh Phangan is a beautiful island in the Gulf of Thailand and the neighbor of Koh Samui. Its beaches and bays are among its main attractions, while the island’s interior is covered with dense jungle, mountains and waterfalls. Koh Phangan became world-famous thanks to its Full Moon Parties. These all-night beach events at Haad Rin attract thousands of visitors with electrifying music, fire shows and dancing until sunrise. Yet the island has much more to offer—whether you love nature, adventure or nightlife, Koh Phangan has something for everyone.

Days 7–10 | Koh Tao

You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the pier. A catamaran ferry takes you to Koh Tao, where you will be welcomed upon arrival before checking in at your hotel. The following days are free to explore the island’s beautiful beaches and surrounding islets.

Koh Tao may be small, but it is an enchanting island that offers a peaceful tropical getaway for anyone seeking sun, sand and sea. Famous for its stunning coral reefs, abundant marine life and vibrant underwater world, it has become a favorite destination for divers from around the globe. Beyond its turquoise waters, the island offers a relaxed atmosphere, untouched beaches and a lively nightlife, making it a perfect setting for a tropical escape.

One highlight you should not miss is the nearby island of Koh Nang Yuan. Its unique geography is one of its main attractions: the island is actually made up of three small islets connected by a white sandbar. From above, this creates the illusion of a crescent shape, making Koh Nang Yuan an exceptionally picturesque destination.

On your final day, you will be transferred to Koh Samui Airport for your onward journey.
