A Journey Through the Tropical Paradise of Southern Thailand
This is a beautiful journey through lesser-known regions stretching from Bangkok into the deep south of Thailand. Along the way, you will explore the wild and romantic jungle region and spend a night in a floating raft hotel on the River Kwai. The tour takes you past floating markets, a cave temple, and a former royal summer residence perched on a hill, before continuing to the seaside town of Hua Hin. Dramatic limestone formations alternate with long stretches of beaches and secluded bays. In addition to the spectacular natural scenery, the cultural experiences are equally impressive, including visits to some of Thailand’s most beautiful and historically significant temples.
From Chumphon, the gateway to the South, the route continues across the narrowest point of the Malay Peninsula to the Andaman Sea, ending in Ranong. This coastal town is the ideal base for visiting the region’s famous hot springs.

Day 1 | Golden Pagoda & the Death Railway
In the morning, you travel from Bangkok to the provincial capital of Nakhon Pathom, one of the oldest and most culturally significant cities in Thailand. Long before entering the city, you can already see the golden, towering Phra Pathom Chedi. Rising to an impressive height of 127 meters, it is one of the tallest Buddhist monuments in the world.
Continuing to the province of Kanchanaburi, an adventurous ride along the River Kwai and over wooden viaducts brings you to the historic “Death Railway.” At the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, a powerful exhibition illustrates the harsh conditions under which prisoners of war were forced to work on the railway during World War II.
In the afternoon, a boat takes you to your raft hotel. Floating on the river and surrounded by dense jungle, this unique accommodation offers an unforgettable atmosphere. (L)
Day 2 | Floating Markets & the Royal Hilltop Residence
After a short boat ride back to the pier and a drive through Kanchanaburi, you reach the floating markets of Damnoen Saduak. A traditional rowing boat takes you through the narrow waterways, where goods are still sold directly from boats, just as they were over a century ago.
You continue to the fascinating Khao Yoi Cave Temple, built at the foot of a limestone mountain. This is followed by another highlight: the historic Khao Wang Palace complex, located on a hill with sweeping views over the town and surrounding landscapes. This royal site played an important role during the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods. It was King Rama IV who transformed the hill into a magnificent palace, used as a summer residence and for royal ceremonies.
Later in the day, you check in at your hotel in Hua Hin. In the evening, you have free time to explore the lively night market and the charming old town at your own pace. (L)
Day 3 | Limestone Landscapes & Long Sand Beaches
This morning begins with a visit to Thailand’s oldest train station in Hua Hin. You then continue to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, known for its dramatic landscape dominated by steep limestone mountains. The park’s most famous highlight is the Phraya Nakhon Cave. Inside the cave, a beam of sunlight shines through an opening in the ceiling, illuminating a beautifully crafted royal pavilion built for King Chulalongkorn’s visit in 1890.
Next, the journey takes you past miles of secluded beaches that stretch along the Gulf of Thailand. In Prachuap Khiri Khan, a still relatively unknown town, you can climb over 400 steps to Khao Chong Krachok. The effort is rewarded with a spectacular view of the town, harbor, and surrounding coastline.
Finally, you arrive in the peaceful coastal village of Baan Krut, where you will spend the night. Your resort is located directly on a long sandy beach, and the afternoon is free to relax. (L)
Day 4 | The Narrowest Point of the Malay Peninsula
Your journey continues south toward Chumphon, a region where neither the town nor the beaches are well known among Western travelers.
You leave the Gulf of Thailand behind and drive toward the West Coast through untouched jungle landscapes and past waterfalls until you reach the narrowest point of the Malay Peninsula—the Isthmus of Kra. From the viewpoint, you can enjoy a wide panorama overlooking the Kra River and the nearby Burmese border region.
In the afternoon, you arrive in Ranong on the Andaman Sea. Check-in at your hotel. (L)
Day 5 | Hot Springs & Connecting to Your Final Destination
In the morning, you visit the famous hot springs of Ranong. Towering trees provide shade over the area, which features three large springs and small streams. The 70-degree Celsius, sulfur-rich thermal water rises at the foot of a forested mountain.
Continuing southward, the route leads to Kuraburi, passing beautiful scenery, shrimp farms, and local markets. Arriving in the Khao Lak region, you see the area’s long, sweeping beaches.
From here, you can choose your onward travel route. You may wish to stay in Khao Lak or optionally continue on to Khao Sok, Phuket, Krabi, or Surat Thani. Travelers heading to Ko Samui will stay for an additional night before being transferred onward (these services are not included in the tour price).
